So yesterday I had my first appointment with Dr. Cole at the Cole
Center for Healing in Sharonville. I cannot tell you the feeling I had
after leaving there. My frustration with traditional medicine has
reached epic proportions, as I seriously do not just want a
prescription; I want to know what is causing the problem, and fix it,
without drugs if possible.
The Cole Center for Healing is a little bit granola....there are some things there that are considered odd by some, but I went in with an open mind. They have you fill out extensive paperwork, exam you, and really listen to you. Dr. Cole was like an angel, I swear, he is so cool.
He is concerned that I have several issues going on. He wants to do further testing and a couple of treatment things.
1. He was going to recommend the gluten free, soy free diet, and was ecstatic that I did that on my own and was doing so well.
2. Due to my change in feelings after going Gluten Free, he is concerned I may have celiac disease as well, so he wants to do a celiac panel.
3. He wants to repeat bloodwork in about four weeks, to check my thryoid levels and vitamin d levels. He switched my thryoid meds to Armour. (I was taking synthroid).
4. He wants to do a mineral trace test to see what is going on with me and with those results, I will have a better picture of WTF is going on. However, I cant do this test until about four weeks from now since I just got my hair colored, and they have to wait for regrowth.
5. He wants to use amino acids and nutritional supplements to fix some of the things that are going wrong. There are tests that need to be done to determine levels, but the amino acid treatments also cause weight loss due to regulating the body. HELL
YEAH!!
6. Dr. Cole feels that there may be several things causing my symptoms, inflaming the Hashimotos, and eventually, if untreated, will lead to heart disease, stroke, heart attack, cancers, etc. SOOOOO....he is confident that we can identify the problem and restore my health. HOPEFULLY without prescription drugs.
I cannot tell you how exciting it was to have a doctor actually listen to you and he even said, "Prescription drugs dont cure anything, they just manage symptoms". I wanted to kiss him right then and there.
I meet with the other doc next week for the care plan, and to schedule tests and supplements. I am so excited about this path to wellness, and finally feel like I am on the right track. The extreme fear I had has been replaced with excitement at a new life!!!
On a side note, for those of you that didn't know my mom, she had some serious health issues. I remember her depression well, her prozac mood swings, and the massive medical issues that had her in bed for days at a time and unable to get out of bed. Accompanying this was a life long weight battle that I have had as well. I have been terrified that she had something I would get, and didnt want to end up like that. I feel strongly now that had she had the options we do today, she would have been diagnosed with an auto immune disease much like my sister and I, and hopefully would have gotten treatment, and saved herself those years of misery. I feel confident that I will not end up that way, and for the first time in years (probably since my first back injury that had me incapaciated for a long time) I am hopeful, confident, and soo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!
